چکیده

H. pylori, flagellated organism, colonize the gastric epithelium of 50% of the world’s population. Complications of infection include gastritis, peptic ulcers, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALT), and gastric cancer. The flagella promote motility in the mucus layer. The organism binds to antigens on gastric epithelial cells, thus preventing mechanical clearance. The organism hydrolyzes urea locally resulting in an increase in gastric pH.

The Effects of Cholestasis and Cirrhosis on Gastric Acid and Pepsin Secretions in Rat: Involvement of Nitric Oxide

Objective(s) The liver has major role in the organism homeostasis, interactions with other systems, synthesis and metabolism of bile production, drug detoxification and hormone inactivation. Cholestasis can be defined as an impairment of the bile flow which can lead to hepatocytes necrosis and finally cirrhosis. Some studies reported a gastric acid secretion reduction in cirrhotic subjects, wh...

Effect of esophageal distension on gastric secretions in rat and the possible mechanism

Introduction: The effect of esophageal distension (ED) on gastric motility has been well documented, but a few investigations have been carried out on the effect of ED on gastric secretion. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ED on gastric acid and pepsin secretion and the mechanism(s) involved. Methods: Male adult Wistar rats (200-240 g) were anesthetized with urethane (1...

Validation of the string test for the recovery of Helicobacter pylori from gastric secretions and correlation of its results with urea breath test results, serology, and gastric pH levels.

The efficacy of the string culture test to isolate Helicobacter pylori from gastric secretions of 28 volunteers was studied. With the urea breath test (UBT) as the "gold standard," the string culture test showed a sensitivity of 75% and a specificity of 100%. The results of string culture did not correlate with the UBT results, with serum antibody levels, or with the pH levels of gastric secret...

The stability of the radiotriolein bond in intestinal secretions.

The radiotriolein test has been reported to be unreliable in the diagnosis of steatorrhoea. A possible explanation is provided by these studies in which labelled triolein was incubated in human gastric juice, duodenal juice, and faeces; the bond was not stable on duodenal juice.

A tumor-associated antigen in gastric cancer secretions.

An antigen, distinct from Gold's carcinoembryonic antigen, was identified in 91% of gastric cancer secretions (GCJ). Re acted with rabbit immune serum against GCJ, this antigen ap pears as one precipitin line among others on double diffusion in agargel.Whentheimmune serumhasbeenabsorbed with noncancer secretions, it gives a distinctly prevalent line with GCJ both on immunodiffusion and by immun...
